This gorgeous, scooped, and embossed ivory picture frame moulding features a light and soft aged finish with unique patterns that complement European landscapes as well as bright beach paintings with soft and hopeful colors like Mediterranean blue or pthalo blue.
This ivory picture frame moulding also pairs nicely with baroque colors such as burnt sienna, raw umber, and other warm brown tones. In fact, the decorative embossed pattern featured on the face of the profile is inspired by baroque ornamentation of the 17th century.
The color, of course, is a nod to the historical use of ivory, bone, shell, and other light-colored materials to create decorative ornamentation and fashions. Gothic art, for example, oftentimes featured ornate ivory carvings, and such practices, particularly with the use of shells, date back as far as the Upper Paleolithic era. The practice of using ivory, bone, and shell is so far reaching that it is hard to attribute this practice to a particular region or time period.
This scooped, ivory-colored picture frame profile is 1-3/4” wide, and has a rabbet depth of 1/2”. It is perhaps best to use this picture frame for matted works of art on paper due to the limited depth, but canvas boards and rigid hardboard panels would also fit well. Technically, a stretched canvas could be framed in this ivory picture frame, but the stretcher bar might stick out the back slightly depending on the depth of the stretcher bars.
A few neutral matboard colors that might pair with this frame would be from our acid-free archival selection, including Wet Sand 9515, Devonshire 9860, Sand Trap 9513, Batter 9600, Old Ivory 9812, Tusk 9516, and White Sands 9508. For a few options that are more bold in color, consider Brick 9838, Russet 9834, Marooned 9574, Blue Night 9830, Real Teal 9881, and Coho 9569 which is pink.
