This solid oak, hardwood picture frame moulding is a strong choice if you’re going for a distressed, weathered barn wood country feel. The profile width is 2”, making this solid oak frame technically substantial for any reasonable weight limit.
The profile shape begins with a concave scoop on the inner lip that leads to a protruding rounded ridge, followed by a concave recess and a smaller convex ridge, then a shallow scoop that leads to a small, narrow ridge and then a rounded outer edge. The entire finish has indented markings with the appearance of wormwood, with hopeful hints of warm honey oak making their way through a gray weathered finish, and a subtle white wash filling various crevices throughout the profile.
The frame feels warm, light, and rural; perhaps it would pair with a down-to-earth country portrait session, or hang nicely in a middle-of-America prairie lodge. It would also be a fine choice for Americana folk art and craft-oriented art, such as needlework.
What’s most intriguing from a technical perspective is the density of the oak substrate, making this profile substantial and durable. Although the frame profile is made to look distressed, in reality it is also made to last.
