This white fabric liner is a versatile choice to add dimension and emphasis to an original painting. Fabric liners are placed inside the lip of a deeper frame, and are traditionally used on original oil paintings or canvas giclee prints in which the painting is exposed without glass or acrylic glazing.
Frames that might complement this 2” white fabric liner include V488 Natural Cherry, V265, V1319 Mahogany, and V518 Silver. These options offer a contemporary-gallery look with smooth, simple lines. For a more formal, historic pattern look, consider V236 Baroque Silver.
The aesthetic purpose of a white fabric liner is similar to that of a matboard. The difference is that mats require glazing and are used for works on paper, while a fabric liner utilizes a wood substrate and is more structural as an element of the frame. Fabric liners act as visual breathing room between the art and the frame, so that the eye is focused on the art and not distracted by the visual weight of a frame.
Additional fabric frame liners to consider include Linc-ow 2” Oatmeal, Linb-wt 1 ¼” White, Linb-ow 1 ¼” Oatmeal, and Linb-bk 1 ¼” Black. For the DIY enthusiast, you could also order a fabric frame liner by itself, and then strip the fabric and replace it with your own fabric of choice.
