This picture frame moulding features a laminate finish with the look of maple grain in a soft ivory color. The profile shape is ideal for contemporary art on canvas with it’s ¾” width and 1 ¼”outer depth. The 1” deep rabbet allows room for a fabric-covered frame liner such as Linc-wt. This moulding is also ideal for the price-conscious shopper, as an economical alternative to solid hardwood.
The feel of this moulding is light and airy, perhaps best suited for soft and subtle monochromatic artwork that is in a lighter value range. With low contrast levels and creamy orange and pink hues, this maple-grain laminate moulding finish would do well with artwork that features similar characteristics and color tonality.
The flat shape and minimal color variations also offer a sense of being neutral and accommodating, though artwork featuring darker and more saturated colors may feel too heavy for this finish. It might be best to use this frame for art that feels delicate or dainty.
Another design option is to pair this moulding with a large creamy mat, to emphasize smaller works on paper. Bottom-weighting the mat is also an interesting design option. For an artwork that is 5” x 7” for example, you might consider as much as a 5” mat on the top and sides, and a 6” or 6 ½” mat on the bottom.
