This genuine solid hardwood cherry picture frame moulding is made in America and harvested from the Cumberland Gap region of the Appalachian Mountains. It features a gray weathered finish that represents the feel of a contemporary Cape Cod beach house design. The moulding is 1-1/4” wide, 3/4” deep, with 5/8” rabbet depth, ideal for matted works on paper, and also stretched canvases on thin stretcher bars.
The feel of this moulding certainly pairs with beach art due to the color tonality that matches the way wood grays out as it’s exposed to harsh weather, but this gray picture frame finish also fits with any region known for rainfall, clouds, and gray.
Black and white photography, nature art with a cool monochromatic color range, and other works of art would all pair well with this picture frame. Keep in mind that naturally occurring variations in solid hardwoods affect the grain pattern and color of this picture frame moulding.
For this reason, it shouldn’t come as a surprise if frames look slightly different than the online picture, or for two or more frames to vary in color relative to each other. With that said, this moulding would be an excellent choice for artists looking to frame a series of paintings in a solid hardwood, due especially to the basic, flat, neutral profile shape.
