This deep black wood shadowbox picture frame offers a substantial 2-1/2” rabbet depth and is ideal for framing thick objects and memorabilia. The profile 1-1/4” wide, and features a swan shape with rounded ridges to highlight a satin sheen.
Shadowbox framing project ideas include framing jerseys and sports memorabilia, military medals, buttons, mementos, dried flowers and love letters, merit badges, shells, baby keepsakes, kitchen utensils, party favors, and more.
Original oil paintings on very thick stretcher bars may also be framed in this deep black wood picture frame, and for artists that prefer a fabric frame liner with their frame, consider pairing this shadowbox frame with 2” Linc-wt White or Linc-bk Black. Other black shadowbox frame mouldings to consider include V1430, V172, and V778, though none are quite as deep as V1331.
Another interesting design consideration is the method you choose for building depth into your project. Since shadowbox frames do not include shadowbox walls, you may consider making your own walls out of mat board, foam core, fabric-wrapped material, homemade collage strips, painted wood or MDF, or other material. If you would rather order a mat, you may forego the shadowbox walls and build up foam core strips or other thin material behind the mat to build up depth.
