This brown wood picture frame moulding is made in Italy, and offers a clean, simple, unassuming look for small to medium-sized artwork, especially photographs and fine art on paper. The profile is 7/8” wide, and features a thin, tan line running along both the inside and outside edges of the profile face. The flat profile face offers the look of a warm brown grain pattern over a wood substrate.
The feel of this picture frame could be described as vintage in the proper context, such as an old childhood photo of kids playing baseball – you can practically smell the linseed oil in the catcher’s mit. Other uses would include small, impressionistic paintings on paper, or fine art prints with a large creamy mat. Artwork that features mustang horses, brown bears, or brown Labradors might also be a good pairing.
This brown picture frame is probably not deep enough to accommodate a stretched canvas, but would be sufficient for paintings on rigid hardboard panels and canvas boards. With a mere 3/8” rabbet depth, perhaps a better choice would be to use this frame in conjunction with glazing, mats, and foamcore backing board.
There are several acid free matboards that we carry that complement this brown picture frame. One combination would be: In the Buff 9524 and Fawn 9815. Another pairing is Sand Trap 9513 and Wet Sand 9515. Or to keep things simple, you could choose a single 8-ply mat such as Cream 25704.
