This contemporary black floater frame features smooth clean lines.
The popularity of the black floating frame style has developed over the years as a postmodern aesthetic for items not requiring a front lip to contain the contents. An example of items that don’t require a front lip would be canvas paintings and giclée prints on canvas, which are stretched and stapled over a stretcher bar.
Additional items that may be displayed with this black floating frame include paintings on hardboard panels, plywood, or laminated foamcore or gatorboard. A growing trend in watercolor painting is to wax the surface to eliminate the need for glass or acrylic glazing. Collage, mixed media, and three-dimensional relief paintings are also good matches for a floater frame, so long as the art doesn’t require top layers such as glass or mats to protect the item.
