This thin, traditional, distressed gold picture frame features a small step on the inner lip, and a flat profile face. The finish is a warm gold color with subtle black scratch marks to simulate an aged look. The profile is 3/4” wide, with a 1/2” rabbet depth. This gold picture frame is ideal for small matted works on paper due to the thin size, along with portraits, posters, fine art prints, and original paintings on thin board such as canvas board or rigid hardboard panel.
Possible art themes or genres that would be ideally suited with this frame include floral paintings, historic architecture, images that are utilize yellow or brown monochromatic color schemes, religious icons and other writings of saints and orthodox figures, and matted certificates and awards.
Additional considerations would be for the mat choices, perhaps from our acid free archival selection. Of course, the color underneath a gold leaf surface is traditionally brick red or burnt orange, because that was the color of bole, the clay that absorbs water in the water gilding process. Colors that enhance the concept of this historic design inspiration include Russet 9834, Root Beer 9585, and Spice 9836. These colors are especially appropriate with picture frames for iconography.
